“data.anatomy [civic]” is a new “sonic and visual installation” by Paris dwelling Japanese artist Ryoji Ikeda. Ikeda looks to science and mathematics for inspiration and his newest project is no different. Ikeda altered data to create electronic sounds and a flowing succession of black and white dots and lines.
Ikeda was approached last year by Honda to create something based on the “CAD information” from the re-designed five door Civic. Working with Misuru Kariya, the development lead on the new Civic model, and a team of five architects and computer programmers the project was finished in four months.
I must confess, I don’t really understand what all of this means, or what I’m exactly looking at in this 2:40 minute video, which gives us a peek at Ikeda’s creation. This however does not take anything away from how impressive it looks, or how cool it is to watch the installation at work, even if you don’t really know what you’re looking at.
Watch “data.anatomy [civic]” and learn more information in the videos comment section (likely understanding it better than I did).
