Filmmaker Justin Anderson’s latest project showcases the new llse Collection by Georg Jensen, the designer behind the water jug, metallic bowl and candleholder stealing the show in this short film. Ilse Crawford, (the eponymous designer), has always worked hard to turn the objects we take for granted into something special. “Hygge” , a Danish word meaning something along the lines of warmth and ease, is synonymous with the llse collection. Like a Pixar or Disney film, Crawford’s m.o. seems to be bringing inanimate objects to life in a playful, “hip” way. “I like taking very normal things and making them special, so those moments that you begin or end the day with are in some way given shape and materiality,” Crawford explains. This explains why Anderson uses repetition, to show our daily tasks can now be special. Crawford clearly had this in mind when she used black glass, brass, copper and polished steel to make this collection of every day objects. “Georg Jensen’s designs embody Scandinavian minimalism and sophistication,” says Crawford who is half Danish. “To me it was about trying to create designs that amplify and accentuate the way we do things.” Crawford is known for designing the interiors (through her personal company, Studioilse) of Nick Jones’ Soho House group (in New York) and their swank country spa getaway “Babington House”.
